The mystery of Darger and his Vivian girls

Henry Darger passed from being an unknown lonely man who lived in a modest place in Chicago to an intriguing character. After he passed away, his apartment became the place to find unbearable as well as impressive pieces of art: water color paintings and texts of thousands of pages. His most recognized creation is the manuscript “The Story of the Vivian Girls” which describes the life of rebellious children fighting against slavery. They are supposed to help bring triumph of Christianity after the assassination of a child labor rebel.

When a child, Darger was not consider as a so-called normal child and attended to an Asylum for “feeble-minded children” just after his father and mother passed away. He, together with a friend, proposed founding a “Children’s Protective Society” in order to protect abused children and help them find loving families that could adopt them. Nevertheless it was in 1930 when he went back to his sweet Chicago where he lived there in a 2^nd floor apartment until his death in 1973. In this room he kept diaries as well as giving life to characters that accompanied him on several stories to the end of his days.

Still his drawings are so enigmatic that deserve a deeper analysis and contemplation just to try to understand what Drager’s feelings were.

I have a soft spot for lived offices, places you can see are being used to think and create and not just to look pretty. Not much different from a real home.

Finally, there are more images of the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection which lands in stores on November 15. Quirky tailoring and oversized shapes, signatures of the house, prevail in this lower-priced, weather appropriate collection. The ad campaign which was photographed by Sam Taylor-Johnson features lots of outerwear leaving us to wonder what else they have to wear underneath them besides silver leggings. Only time will tell.
